Louisville, Ky (May 23, 2025) – The Democrat-controlled Executive Branch Ethics Commission’s pursuit of Daniel Cameron is being seen for exactly what it is: a blatant act of political persecution. Just look at what Kentuckians are saying.

Treasurer Mark Metcalf: “Kentuckians expect fair government—not political hit jobs. I stand with him as he pushes back against this misuse of a vital state agency. If this can happen to Daniel Cameron, it can happen to anyone. Both he—and Kentucky—deserve better.”

Representative TJ Roberts: “This is blatant government weaponization, and reeks of First Amendment Retaliation. The fact that Beshear’s Ethics Committee revived this 2+ year old bogus claim immediately after Daniel Cameron announces his run for office, all the while Andy Beshear is facing his own illegal straw donation scandal himself, speaks volumes about Beshear Corruption.”

Republican Party of Kentucky: “@KyDems & @AndyBeshearKY whining about—or initiating—an investigation into fundraising-related issues is HILARIOUS, especially when the commission is stacked w/ Andy’s buddies. Who remembers @TomLoftus_CJ’s reporting on Randall Weddle & KDP’s illegal straw donations during the ‘23 gubernatorial campaign?”

Andrew Cooperrider: “A few months ago major news broke that Beshear was likely very aware of the alleged Randall Weddle straw donor operation. A crime other Democrats in Kentucky have been convicted for. The response to this is to go after a Republican on issues from years ago. I’m not sure who I’m voting for in this senate race … but this thing stinks of corruption.”

Smokahontas: “Daniel Cameron’s only “crime”? Being the Republican the left fears most. Now Beshear’s allies are throwing a bogus ethics tantrum over donations Cameron legally accepted, recused from, and refunded. This isn’t justice—it’s a power play. They did it to Trump. Now they’re after Cameron.”

Lance ‘Doc’ Pearson: “Didn’t he immediately return the contribution when this originally happened?”

Liam Gallagher: “Cameron returned the money and recused himself from the investigation. Meanwhile how’s London Mayor Randall Weddle doing? $202,000 in illegal campaign contributions to @GovAndyBeshear and the @KyDems.”

Professor Springer: “Means they’re scared of what you can do. They must not have learned from last time.”

Floyd County Republican Party: “After two years of silence, Andy Beshear conveniently launches an ethics investigation into Daniel Cameron—just in time for election season. It’s a clear example of how Democrats have made weaponizing the justice system part of their political playbook.”

Fleming County GOP: “This isn’t about ethics. It’s about power. It’s about using the machinery of government to take down political opponents. And if they’ll do it to a former Attorney General, what’s stopping them from doing it to a county official, a conservative volunteer, or even a parent who speaks up at a school board meeting?”

GenXKentuckian: “Former AG Daniel Cameron, candidate for US Senate, must be a threat and doing something right in being attacked by leftie and Andy Beshear. Will anyone investigate why Andy use tax payers fund or disaster funds or the big cardboard check during his campaign?”

Kentucky Freedom Coalition: “Why wait this long if not for politics?”

Eric Lycan: “He has weaponized it, as he has before. That’s why the legislature reorganized the Executive Branch Ethics Commission so each elected executive officer had an appointment. But Andy sued and the courts enjoined it. 5 years later unresolved - he still appoints his own ethics cops.”
