Makenze Cameron touts The Cameron Catch-Up Plan in new TV ad

October 3, 2023

Louisville, Ky. (October 3, 2023) – The Daniel Cameron for Governor Campaign released a new television ad touting the Cameron Catch-Up Plan to help students recover from historic learning loss inflicted by Andy Beshear’s school lockdowns.

The spot features Daniel’s wife, Makenze Cameron, who spent 7 years as a public school teacher in the Oldham County Public School system.

“As a public school teacher, I know Daniel understands how hard teachers and parents are working to get their kids caught up from historic learning loss,” Makenze Cameron said. “They deserve a governor who will work with them. Daniel Cameron will be that Governor.”

According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) and the Kentucky Department of Education, fewer than half of Kentucky students are proficient in math or can read at grade level. Only 29% are proficient in science. Students are also missing school at a historic high. Chronic absenteeism is near 30% since Andy Beshear’s lockdowns.

In order to address these challenges, the Cameron Catch-Up Plan will authorize a fully-funded tutoring program, restore classroom discipline, and surge resources to teachers and classrooms.

Ad script:

Kentucky’s kids have fallen behind.

Only 40 percent are at grade level in math…only 45 percent in reading…

Since Governor Beshear closed down schools, scores are down in every category.

As a teacher, I know we can do better and with Daniel Cameron, we will.

16 weeks of tutoring to catch up…discipline in the classroom…and a pay raise for teachers.

How do I know Daniel Cameron will listen to teachers?

Because he’s married to me.
